review 1: Read this as a summer reading study for my church homegroup. Excellent read. The following is one of my favorite quotes in the book..."But after reading the Bible more carefully, I now understand that Christian growth does not happen by working hard to get something we don't have. Rather, Christian growth happens by working hard to daily swim in the reality of what we do have. Believing again and again the gospel of God's free justifying grace every day - and resting in his verdict - is the hard work we're called to."
review 2: 1:55:00Growth in Christian life is always going deeper into gospel. We won't know how big the gospel is unless we know how big of sinners we are.Not even an infant comes into this world innocent or morally stable.Ignoring God is arrogant.
... more We are aware of him, unable to know what our lost ness is attached to. We attempt to cover this up by things of the world, but we are made for him.Bigness of SinRomans Alienated, It has a Cosmic ReachCreative order to futility.Romans 1:19-20But also individualGospel is both the whole world, but good news for each person.Alienated have been brought near.Hostel now are chosen ones.Hebrews 10:10The banner under which a Christian lives reads, it is finished.Jesus is so infinity everything, but he made himself nothing.2 Corith 5:1Glorious exchangeIt takes those who essentially are nothing and have nothing and brings them to a glorious completeness of wholeness and perfection.Jesus is everything and therefore for mankind the gospel is everything. Part 4 - NothingChapter 7 - Fully ExposedOur must have list is vast. Deep rooted cravings and trend toward idolatry.Something must capture our imaginations. Without Holy Spirit that object will not be God.Add on approach - Jesus +Performancism - do more, try harder. About us, not Christ. Threat to the gospel. less
