The Light of the Fallen
review 1: 3/5A cute, avowedly risqué young adults novel with plenty of humour, and touching 'coming out' themes intermingled. A shorty short story (short, optimum word). If you like fluff, happy endings and m/m romance which is more psychological than blatantly physical in its sexual dimensions then this is for you!Plot: fine. A firm fine, I saw no issues with it. A little predictable, but there was a twist in the final third that I never anticipated; which is always good. It did manage to keep it light despite exploring the hurt, pain and challenges faced by young gay kids in high school. The author does this with a capacity to keep the emotions pertinent without overwhelming the reader (and thus ruining the humour, the lighter touch of the story). A worthwhile, albeit brief, fora... morey into LGBT coming out issues. It touches on most of the basics, conservative small town hicks, with bigotry. Misunderstandings about what 'gay' even means, and nasty family who turn on you for being honest about yourself. Despite all that, the plot is sweet, not as heavy as you may fear.Prose: cute. I mean, pink and white puffy clouds cute. Cat ears on androgynous bishonen yaoi boys cute! Firmly young adult in style, but that is no bad thing at all.Characterisation: Twisted Hilarity kind of rushes (blurts out?) the main protagonists background, but given this is a short story - this is okay and excusable. But the main love interest backdrop is deliciously hinted at, keeping the reader firmly in the dark till the 'grand reveal' at the end (never hurts in a short story to have a 'grand reveal' I feel).Worth a shout, I've read better stuff by this author, but this is definitely a worthwhile read if you like cutesy, sweet M/M coming out romances with that all important happy ending!
review 2: This was a light, sweet story that I really enjoyed. Nick is such a great character and I like the deviation from the norm with Marcus and Aurelius. If I have any complaint, it's that the story ended too soon. Not that it needed to go beyond that point in time but the wrap up was a bit quick. So much time is taken at the beginning of the story to unfold the characters, it would have been nice to have that same depth tie up the ends as well. less

Really wish this was longer. All the characters are begging for a full length story.
