review 1: For fans of this series, this is a critical book. I'm not a fan. My reaction is odd in that most of the book is good. Every so often McDermid will throw in a line or paragraph that irritates me enough that I want to close the book. Granted, most of these are personal preferences. I did force myself to finish the book because I was hoping she'd change direction and pacify me. Didn't happen. Refer to Poe's raven for final commentary.
review 2: The pages undeniably turn, and the characters' needs drive the plot in a way which I would call satisfying if it wasn't for all the violence.
