review 1: I really loved this book because it really excited me to read it. Love the plot twists and turns. Some parts kind of freak me out a little bit but I am used to watching crime programmes and action movies, so I guess this book is my NUMBER ONE favourite of the crime series. Considering the fact, I have never read a decent crime thriller before, I absolutely loved it. My favourite character is Stacey Chen because she is an expert on computers. But I do love Carol, Paula and Tony,though.
review 2: I am giving this book three stars because it was readable enough, in Val McDermid's usual punchy style. But I can't say I "enjoyed" it. Even though I had a rough idea of the plot, having read the successor book, "Cross and Burn", out of order, I still found it distressin... moreg to read about and vicariously experience the torment inflicted on characters I'd come to know and like in previous Tony Hill and Carol Jordan books. The awfulness of it all left me feeling somewhat depressed, even though "it's only a story". less
