review 1: Brunstetter does a great job of depicting the Amish community. I love the characters Meredith, Luke and the dog Fritz.Luke is out of a job and must figure out how to provide for his family. Meredith and Luke have been married for less than 2 years and the marriage is somewhat strained over the money issue. Luke is offered a job, but must leave to learn the job and bring it back to Lancaster. If you like series, then you will enjoy this series. It is a quick read, and enjoyable. Brunstetter leaves you hanging at the end that your are dying to read the next book.
review 2: This was a cute little fast read about a young Amish couple. Luke lost his job as a furniture maker about six months previously and he and his wife, Meredith, have been living on their savings... more. Merrie suspects she might be pregnant, but before that is confirmed, Luke gets a letter from his uncle in another state that he would like to sell his headstone engraving business to Luke. Even though it is winter and storms are between PA and IN, he feels that this is a good opportunity and takes a bus to his Uncle's to learn the business and purchase the equipment and arrange for shipping back to PA. Merrie has misgivings about this venture, but is submissive to both her husband and God. What was to be a new start is dashed when tragedy strikes.It is refreshing to meet characters committed to marriage, yet struggling with the marriage, their faith, and financial circumstances. This is no fairy tale romance; things are not perfect, and apparently getting worse. less
