review 1: An absolutely standout achievement. This is some of Ellis' very best work, and between him and Shalvey's gob-slapping artwork, a volume I can't recommend enough. Simplicity is the game this collection plays. Whereas most books are itching to start establishing some huge overarching ultra-baddy, or establish their maxi cred with a multitude of wink and nods, or are so overinvested in prior continuity that it locks out new readers, this volume is content to meditate on simplicity. Each story a one shot, allowing the identity of individuals and the environment to be prioritized over expository dialogue or a flood of new faces. Frequently pages go by without any speaking at all, and when people do speak it's generally smartly spare, allowing you to fill in the rest as you like... more. The art is careful, distinct, by turns lush and minimalist. The book gets into Moon Knight's past speedily and with a fresh perspective: the night vigilante who dresses all in white because he *wants* you to know he's coming. (Plus possessing an almost admirable Zen in his measured shunning of human contact and a life outside his cape.) Rather than a book eager to prove that cool stuff is coming, it shreds that logic and says: how about that cool stuff now? No foreshadowing, no waiting issue by issue subsisting on a trail of bread crumbs. Action, characterization, color. Right here, right now.
review 2: A really interesting take. The 'the one they see coming' idea was explored in in recent years, but I really like the no-nonsense approach to his attacks and skills. Most of it is just in your face, little dialogue, grit with some supernatural history thrown in. The new costume scheme is really interesting and could almost be an entirely new character. There is pretty much nothing that Warren Ellis does that isn't perfect. less

Collection of Ellis and Shalvey's six one-shots... beautiful art, fast-paced action.

This was interesting but there were a couple places I just did not follow.
