review 1: I've been so busy lately, so needed something light and fun to read. This fit the bill perfectly, a fluffy cozy mystery starring an interior decorator turned PI and her newly adopted, talking Chihuahua. Pepe. Yes, that's right, the dog talks to her in a mix of English and Spanish that almost everyone else just hears as barking. I found the characters, especially Pepe, to be cute and charming, and breezed right through this. I'd read another in the series if I was looking for a fast fluffy read to make me smile.
review 2: I bought this in an airport because I like chihuahuas. It was a fast read, but a number of elements left me cold, particularly the protagonist-centred morality, and the ethnic stereotyping used for the dog. Tighter editing was needed in places
... more, particularly when the protagonist and the dog were conversing while another person was in the room; several times the dog’s dialogue had bearing on the responses or actions of someone who couldn’t understand him, and that broke the suspension of disbelief for me. Equally, characterisation seemed inconsistent and thin, even in main characters. There were definitely cute moments, but overall this was not a winner for me. less

I really liked this book! I'd carry on with the series, but I can't find book 2 on Kindle.

This was cute. Not the best mystery that I have ever read, but it was cute.
