review 1: I love that this book is written in so many different perspective. Whenever there is a new character, his/her perspective is always given. However, this is also one of the things that frustrates me, might have been author's intentional doing. When the reader know who the killer is but no one else in the book does, it irks the reader, at least, it was bothering me when I was reading it. When the Detective was forcing Jerry to confess, for that one page, I really thought Jerry did it. But when I thought back for a few minutes to the times with Jerry's perspective, I realized it wasn't Jerry. I thought the detectives were just like Jamie in the sense that they were putting stuff in Jerry's head. Poor Jerry didn't know what he was agreeing to, he just wanted cake, and didn't w... moreant to be alone. The mystery is very interesting in this book. I find it very unnecessary to add Emily's part when Allison was almost getting attacked. I feel that those are exactly the pages I would skip just to see what happened to Allison. I didn't know that this was a series! So hard to accept that the mystery was not solved! I like that Vic knew something was weird and hinted Rocky to look into the dad, but I guess Rocky was getting irritated with the case and want to get it over with. But overall, the characters are realistic and well-created! It was so interesting to see things from Jamie's perspective. I read the first chapter of the next novel, I wish I can read how Allison and Mack got together, instead of getting a 10-years-later version.
review 2: My first novel by Staub. A serial killer is very active in NYC and 9/11 has just happened. Trying to find the resources to work on this case is driving the detectives nuts, as the city is tied up with all the 9/11 issues. The reader is pretty convinced the main suspect is the killer. Many signs point to this guy. The characters are interesting and the tension is constant. Becomes a page turner the further you get into the novel. The ending is unexpected. I'm not a avid reader of this genre, but I would read another Staub novel. less
