review 1: Nightwatcher was definitely a book that took some time to grow on me. It felt like too many characters were being introduced too quickly at the start & barely any time was given to characterize them well. Even the details that were provided felt unnecessary. However, 20 pages in, the action finally starts to pick up. The relationships between the characters develop and an interesting turn of events makes you care about each person and their story. The homicides paired with a backdrop of the 9/11 attacks keep the suspense up right until the end, where I have to say, a final plot twist caught me absolutely off guard. Overall, the book was very well written by an author with a keen eye for detail. The description of post-9/11 New York was flawless and created a gritty, dark a... moretmosphere suitable for the novel to progress through.
review 2: This book was emotional - you can't help but flash back to the 9/11 attacks when reading the descriptions and relate to what the characters were feeling. I felt the suspense related to the serial killer plot of the book was lacking. Perhaps, that is because the emotion of 9/11 superseded everything else? I'm not sure. I also did not like the ending - it frustrated and disappointed me. I understand that it lends itself to the sequel, but.... Overall, this was a good book and I plan to read the sequel. less
