A Mystery a La Mode
review 1: All 3 books in this series are basically short stories, but connected. And they need to be read in sequence, since the stories of the characters make sense that way. What I liked is that the mysteries in each of these bring in people from their small town, but there's also an underlying and stronger story of the family that takes place here, too. For short, simple mysteries, these were interesting books, and in their own way, well written. Very enjoyable. I hope there's another in the series planned, with Bree and Cal as the back story.
review 2: Read this after reading the second in the series. Did not disappoint. The heroine, Tally, is more reluctant to get involved in solving mysteries, which I like. There are too many cozy mysteries heroines that think the
... morey how to do things better than the professionals and just go off foolishly and without regard to their safety and sometime the safety of their friends, which is even more unforgivable. As a friend of my has said, you have to a compelling reason for the heroine to place herself in peril. Unfortunately, most cozy heroines don't. As my friend told and I agree, many "too stupid to live" - but they do, only to go off again and endanger themselves and the people around them. Tally though is more reserved, but succumbs eventually to sticking her nose into the mess. Like the way she warned the town (county?) cop she was going get involved. Small town, and she knows the cop from childhood. I am a bit peeved though, that the cop seemed to have a one track mind in this book. Bit of a cliche I think and annoying. However, he is not so stubborn as some characters that he can't see another view or open his mind to other possibilities. There are only three in the series I think, and I've read 2 & 3 - guess I should go the the beginning now. less

Just cute, happy, fun reading. Oh, and there's a murder. But don't let that spoil the fun.

I still love these books even though I find them a bit slow to get going.
