review 1: This book will definitely go near the top if my "2014 books I read" list, if not at the top. William Struthers is a bio psychologist and researcher who is also a man of faith. Whereas most books written about porn and lust from a Christian perspective only address the spiritual side of things (such as the book "Every Man's Battle," which is also excellent), Struthers explains the science and chemistry behind how the brain reacts to and is impacted by porn.Learning about the science behind it encouraged me to keep waging war on my lust, and shed light on some of my behavior and thought patterns. Struthers uses the results of his research and the research of those he cites to spur the reader on to greater sanctification. Excellent book; highly recomme... morended.
review 2: The author links pornography, neuro-plasticity, and spirituality together seamlessly in one volume. I expected the book to focus more on the effects, harm, and habits formed in the mind by pornography. The amount of spiritual content was surprising. Much of what is said biblically is founded upon the author's belief concerning what it means to be "created in God's image." While I am not convinced that he and I share exactly the same convictions, his words were definitely thought-provoking. Additionally, the author deals with common conceptions and misconceptions of masculinity, both from a biblical and social perspective. All in all, it was a good synopsis on the pornography and the brain. While I was expecting more details concerning psychology and physiology, I enjoyed the read nonetheless. It certainly has informed, enlightened, and encouraged me to pursue a deeper understanding and study of the subject. less
