review 1: I have actually first watched the anime first (about four years ago) before reading finally it this year. We all are aware that the anime series and the manga have different pacing and there will be a little tweak here and there when it's finally in its anime form and there will always be this kind of cliffhanger especially if it's still an ongoing manga (which is evident in this case). I liked the heroine, Kyoko--all the things that she went through for the man she thought she loves and loved him back went down to the drain: the pain, loss and sense of revenge to get even with the guy. I liked her fierceness...although she's bitter, heck, her bitterness is actually hilarious but pitiful as well. It was fine...but I guess the thing that I have issues with mangas is its slo... morew pacing. Still, I will read it...although not really religiously just like before. When the mood strikes me, I guess. My review is crap, I know.:D
review 2: Volume 21 of Skip Beat goes back to focusing on Kyoko's acting, which is what I was asking for in volume 20. Unfortunately, I didn't feel quite as satisfied to get my way because she is having such a hard time. And it's not because she doesn't understand her character, because I feel like she does, but because the director wants something different from her. So does she fight for what she knows is right, or go along with what the director, her boss, wants? Add to that a meddling, jealous, sabotaging co-star, and Kyoko is having way too many problems for my liking. As for Ren, we don't see much of him in this volume. He tries, but there's not much he can do to help Kyoko past this - or is there? I guess we'll have to wait until volume 22 to find out! :) less
