review 1: There isn't much to say about this book.The art-style takes a bit getting used to in my mind, especially when regarding the Yokai, but for the most part its ok. Emotional ways only one of the stories is really gripping, the other ones not so much. But as it isn't incredibly good it isn't bad either. However, what is a bit annoying are too things:1) The comments of the author at the side of some pages. But you could ignore them usually, as I did eventually.2) At the start of pretty much every chapter we get told the basic premise of the main character. And that was annoying pretty quickly. After all this is one volume respectively even sperately you can count on readers remembering such things so what the hell?All things considered this book could have been better (e.g. som... moree more Yokai coming along and wanting the "book of friends" to control other Yokai) but it could have been worse as well.
review 2: I bought the first seven of these when my local Borders Express was going out of business, $15 for seven manga? Hell yeah. I quickly realized that there was a reason all those were just sitting there. This is a monster of the week story. Something that I don't mind watching on TV, or even in a monthly magazine, not so much in a compiled book with 4-5 chapters or installments in each book.That considered, it is not that I dislike the concept, characters or the execution, I must simply read each book in many sittings to get the most out of it. For those of you that love the monster of the week feel this one is for you. less
