review 1: Quick thoughts. So absurd yet so funny. This is pretty much the epitome of a guilty pleasure, with melodramatic cooking battles culminating in near-naked depictions of characters delighting in the food they taste. It revels in its ridiculousness though, resulting in a read that's fun almost despite itself. One interesting thing about this series is the fanservice is somewhat balanced, which male characters getting the scantily clad pin-up treatment nearly as often as the females. Once again the manga makes no attempt to be anything other than what it is and it's nice to see the author playing to both possible segments of his audience (although I will admit I personally could've gone without seeing a sumo wrestling match depicted with ecchi overtone... mores...)
review 2: 4 starsOkay, I enjoyed this volume better than the first. The drama of the food wars is fun, and the descriptions of the food makes me drool. I hate cooking, but even I'm tempted to try some of the recipes included because they sound so darned tasty. Not sure how these 14 year old girls have boobs the size of their heads, but then I remember that I am not the target market. It's still fun anyway. less

It's only the second book and it's already starting to feel a tad repetitious. More to follow later.

I didn't like this one as much as book 1. But I do find this series really funny with nice art.

still pretty inappropriate in a lot of places, but definitely want to eat some niku donburi now.

Same comments as book 1 basically. So who can't he beat is the real question here.
