review 1: I don't read much fantasy - alone urban fantasy - so I wasn't sure what to expect. But I loved this book so much. Marriott has a beautiful writing style - precise and evocative - and the plot and characterisation is brimming with intelligence and intrigue. I loved all the Japanese myth, and the echoes of Western fairy tales, and adored brave and resourceful Mio and her sidekick Jack. Marriott is a consummate storyteller and this is the perfect entry into a trilogy. Can't wait to read the next one.
review 2: This book turned out to be much more fun than I expected! I had been skeptical after reading a blog post by the author about how she does instalove well in this book. However, I honestly don't really consider the romance to be instalove, since Mio often remi
... morends herself that she just met the guy and knows nothing about him despite her developing crush. Anyway, awesome kitsune and cat-demons from Japanese myths with fun friendship dynamics and a London setting! Also I'm a super fan of Mio's best friend being a lesbian and have my fingers crossed that she finds a girl in the next book :D. This is a great book for fans of Japanese myths and is just a fun and fast adventure! less

Turns out Mio isn't a dragon. :( She's still badass nonetheless.
