review 1: Contemporary London meets Japanese mythology in the fantastic beginning of what promises to be an amazing UF trilogy that will delight not only its intended YA audience (says the 27-yr-old who devoured it in a matter of hours). Great characters, lots of action, an original and wonderfully crafted magic-filled storyline, romance, supernatural creatures and a mystical sword - what more could one want? (Except the sequel in my hands - now!)
review 2: Wow, just wow. The pace of the novel is superb and flowed like a natural occurrence of events not just scrambled action scenes. I loved the human element of the novel, how it dealt with loss, missed oppitunites, being helpless and most of all acknowledgement that love isn't always clean cut. The characters dynamics we... morere fantastic although Mio and Shinobu's love was a somewhat insta-love they didn't leap into each others arms there was some hesitation there which I liked and the complications of their relationship had little teen angst and soap opera drama which made it a unique and realistic romance that was still able to be swoon-worthy and adorable without all the fluff. I loved the characters even the supporting characters were strong and pulled their weight in the story not just there to tell us how awesome or stupid the main character was. The ending was cliché but the description of the scenery and the internal victory and realisation that it wasn't over was a strong book-end for Mio and the story that left me wanting to see if there was a sequel and picking it up straight away. less
