review 1: This book is based on a kid and he was not rich and is mom and dad were not together. He was fat and he would get mad at kids that made fun of him. In one part he had stold up to a and he had hit the kid with a sock with batters and the story grabed you with a fight at the start of the book and that is a good start to the book. I think you should realy this book its a book for a good life lesson to show you to stand up to your bully
review 2: Jackson's purpose in writing her book, Playground, is to let the audience know that there might not be a reason for why a bully is doing something or acting some sort of way. And that most bully's don't just get kicks out of being mean. Playground offers hope to its reader. It teaches us that you can stand up
... more to peer pressure and for you self and end bullying. Playground is truly inspirational. Readers will always remember various parts of this book. like the many different forms of love shown in the book and how some people truly love you, but just don't know how to show it. That will forever hold lasting value to me emotional and I can always think about that when things get rough with loved ones. Playground is extremely well written. The story is easy to read, but still offers an extensive vocabulary with great imagery and a variety of sentence structure. The author also provides good advice that can appeal to any audience in a clear and unique way. For example, the main character's dad gives his son terrible advice about life "You want the world to treat you like a man,you gotta start acting like one. It's really just a question of getting what you want in your sights and just grabbing it. Now just watch and learn."(Jackson 102). Jackson has a way of getting her point across in a creative and relatable way. This book was incredibly captivating. The bully's story told in the book is unlike any love story I've ever read. The reader will be angry while reading the book and also happy many times. This book touches the heart and make the reader reflect on his/her life if only for a short period of time. This book really connects to ones emotions. The first book of the series, playground, is full of questions, but is also extremely joyful. This book possesses the necessary ingredients for an absolutely fascinating, thought-provoking story. The greatest strength of the book, playground, that it is told in a completely realistic way, unlike many other books. An example of this is Jackson's playground. The main character was waiting to meet Maurice at the playground "I'd woken up that morning and pulled that special sock out of my underwear drawer, with my lucky sock I knew nothing could go wrong"(Jackson 9). The greatest weakness is that is has cursing in it. Which could be a reason why I would not recommend this to everyone. Even though It is still one of the best books Ive read. I would strongly recommend this to any kid in middle/High school because bulling is something they can relate too. And most likely they have seen it's occasions of it in real life.Even though sometimes it may be difficult to understand or even like the main character, after learning and gaining some insight into his life, the reader will begin to have compassion for this kid. He has no male role model, and nothing but peer pressure at school. Through time and therapy, trial and error, Butterball learns right from wrong, and that he has the power of choice. He stands up to peer pressure, stops bullying, accepts his mom and her partner as the good parents they are, sees his dad for the jerk he is, and embraces therapy. I like that Butterball concentrates on his passion for making movies, and staying out of trouble. This is a great book for anyone mature do to the language and for is a good book for males or female audience. less
