review 1: I picked this book off my shelf at random - we were given tons of books by a friend, and this was one of them - so I had no idea what it would be like. It was a quick and fun read! Don't expect it to be an amazing literary contribution to the world, but rather something light and cute and entertaining. I really loved the concept of the deities and paying tribute in a "modern" (future?) world. If you don't have the time for more serious reading or want to bring something with you on vacation, this would be perfect.
review 2: Finished reading " Divine Misfortune ". I really liked it. It was funny, clever, and certainly unusual. Well worth reading. It really didn't feel like the 300 pages that it was.Phil and Teri don't have a god. That isn't a problem until Phil
... moregets passed up again for a promotion at work. His coworker, who made a sacrifice to Bahl, has moved up the ladder and Phil is tired of it. He and Teri decide that it is time to choose a god. They use an online deity service to see profiles of various gods. A lot of the big gods have high prices to prove devotion such as blood sacrifices, vows of chastity, poverty, or even severing a limb. The price is too high for them so they find a god who seems perfect. He is a minor deity of good fortune. He has no big tribute, he just wants to crash on their couch for a few days. The god, Luka ( call him Lucky ) moves in and their luck begins to change. Lucky soon begins to date Teri's friend Janet and that is when things get weird. Lucky's ex, a goddess who used to be of love but is now one of heartbreak and tragedy, is stalking Lucky and his new girlfriend. If that wasn't enough Lucky's old enemy Gorgoz, a god of chaos, destruction, an death is also after Lucky and his followers. Will Lucky's good fortune be enough to keep Teri and Phil safe from both gods? And why has Quetzcoatal moved in with Teri and Phil as well? less

3.5 Stars. A very funny and surprisingly light book that just doesn't quite stick the landing.
