review 1: A fun, endearing, and silly romp through science fiction weirdness, starring a gigantic mollusk genius into world domination, his oversized pet centipede Snog and his reptilian Venusian bodyguard Zala. Add in an enormous cast of equally odd characters, including a huge omnivorous vegetable, a queen wrapped in blue bandages, a band of dinosaurs of species that never existed outside of this book, a disembodied brain (several actually), lunar beings (some large, some teensy), etc. etc. etc. There are also lots of strange plot twists involving time travel (I could have lived without some of these, but hey, nothing is perfect). ... moreosest thing I've read in both tone and general premise to Hitchhiker's. I particularly loved that the story was told from the perspective of an ostensible supervillain, but as the story progresses, we begin to see the large grey area between good and evil. The sci-fi elements were sophisticated and made for some great twists. Perhaps the prose could be a bit more artful, but I'm not sure that would fit the story. Recommended if you're looking for a light, fun read. less

Enjoyable read. Humorous but with occasional very interesting philosophical ideas thrown in.

Funny, if inconsistent. It was a fun read, but no literary canon.
