review 1: This book has some really neat illustrations that the students would allow the students to make predictions and follow along with the story. The ending is a bit of a twist as an adult I saw coming but younger students would be surprised. It could also be used as a way of talking to students about being afraid of things that really aren't scary. It could help them relate to times they were scared of inanimate objects and what they did to overcome that fear or what they could do if they are still afraid.
review 2: This is a cute story. Jasper Rabbit loves carrots, and then he begins to see them everywhere and they no longer give him pleasure, but fear. The illustrations seem to add a great deal to the book. They are done in brown and black tones with only orange
... moreadding any real color, and this enhances the "scary" feel of the tale. It is a great mix of humor and tension, and, in my opinion, will not scare young children; the end is funny. As a teacher, I can foresee using the "nightmare" part of the story to let my students discuss their own nightmares, how common objects can appear scary in the dark. It might help some of them open up, and the plot might help them distinguish between what is real and things in dreams. If you read the story without looking at the pictures, you realize how well the author uses language to convey feelings and enhance the story. less
