review 1: This is a cleverly written tale about pirates and cowboys who meet one day. They both speak in “foreign” languages and can’t understand each other. The misunderstandings lead to trouble until the one pirate/cowboy comes into town and can understand everyone. He notices that everyone smells really bad, and that bonds them all. They get cleaned up and have some sarsaparilla together, and everyone lives happily ever after. The text is entertaining for both adults and children and the pictures are fabulous! Great to read aloud! A winner.
review 2: When it comes to ornery hombres that kids love it's a toss-up between pirates (arrrr!) or cowboys (yippie ki yi yay!) Burnt Beard's crew looks for treasure in the wild west only to lock horns with Black Bob an... mored his posse. Seems there can only be one band of scallywags in this county. To add to the conflict Cowboys don't understand pirate-speak and visa-versa. Great fun from the twisted mind that brought us the demented Creepy Carrots last year.Sure to be a new bedtime favorite as long as you act out the parts. less
