review 1: First, this is a republished version of "Without Reserve". The concept was interesting, but a unique opportunity was lost here in this work. Instead of focusing on the story of a rival for Elizabeth far too much time was spent stating Darcy's sexual fantasies, which were basically the same each time. There was no significant development or movement forward. The writing itself was good and the dialogue fun and amusing. The direction the story went at the beginning with Elizabeth and this other man was promising. My heart broke for Darcy as he watched them, longed for Elizabeth and was filled with regret. The tragic tension was so thick. However, the story soon lost its luster. Reynolds could have really gone somewhere interesting with this piece. Its disappointing and a ... morepity.
review 2: This is my first P&P retelling, and I would say I liked it, but didn't love it. As other reviewers have said, the first part is quite good - I love the banter between Darcy and Elizabeth, and I enjoyed the twist on the original plot. I really love getting to spend more time with them, and getting to see both of their points of view. However, I felt some parts dragged on a bit too long, and that the ending was a bit rushed. And then there were the sex scenes, while I don't feel these were entirely out of character, I do feel they went a bit too far, and didn't really add anything to the story. Altogether, I would say an enjoyable read - 3 1/2 stars. less
