review 1: I enjoyed this modern updated take on Pride & Prejudice. This is not a completely faithful retelling of the classic story so there will be surprises. Don't expect this to be identical to Austen's story. Here the heroine is a scientist and professor from the slums. The hero is the son of a wealthy Senator. The two of course have a clash when they first meet, but soon find much in common. There's "Jane" and "Bingley" in the story as well, but updated to fit modern times. The problem I had with this book is there are so many times you think the story is over but it's not. The same problems come up over and over. There's a section in the book where you think the major issues have been resolved and end of story. Yet the story continues on for several chapters. Better editing wo... moreuld have helped this book. There's quite a bit of sexual content, but it's quite tame by modern standards.
review 2: Another very good book by Abigail Reynolds. I usually don't like contemporary romance, but this one was better than most. This is definitely a modern Pride and Prejudice variation, although only the main characters survive in this one. There is more of an instant attraction between the Cassie and Calder in this one, although there are definitely misunderstanding that keep them apart through half the book. I enjoyed that Cassie was such a strong woman character with intelligence, determination and confidence. Her lack of assurance in Calder and their relationship was actually very realistic considering their backgrounds and his previous affairs with other women. My only disbelief was the book written by Calder regarding his feelings for Cassie since it did not seem realistic for a man to write such a book. It was definitely from a very feminine point of view, although it did move the story ahead so I could overlook it. This was a very long story, and probably could have been shortened by a hundred pages or so, but it did wrap up every loose end and no plot line was left unresolved, which is very satisfying. less

other than the ending dragging out too long I really enjoyed this book.

I will read more just for the chic-lit, Jane Austen-like love story.
