review 1: Old Man Fookwire is an old grump that cannot stand the squirrels living in his backyard. He is particularly fascinated with birds though. One day, their ordinary lives are changed. Little Old Lady Hu moves in next door with her evil cat. Old Man Fookwire is not fond of this cat, Muffins. Muffins even messes with the squirrels, until one day when the squirrels plan against him. They get him wet. After their plan succeeds, Muffins no longer messes with them and the squirrels, birds, the old man and lady, live happy. The old man even seems satisfied with the darn squirrels. The illustrations are bright and hilarious. Each squirrel has their own face and they seem to have personality. Muffins' expressions are priceless. He is evil but enjoys his mischievous ways. I could defin... moreitely use this in a future classroom as a fun read aloud. The full-page illustrations would be wonderful for young readers to enjoy because they are so comical.
review 2: This book is laugh-aloud funny from the hilarious illustrations to the names - Mr. Fookwire, the floogle bird - to the situations - "the sneaky cat pounced on an unsuspecting group of squirrels and gave them all wedgies - not an easy thing to do because generally squirrels do not wear underpants." (Imagine the picture that goes with that line!) Mr. Fookwire is a crotchety old man who loves birds, but is continually confounded by those darn squirrels. The squirrels finish the old man's crossword puzzles and eat his pie. They are a nuisance! But then Muffins the cat moves in next door and Mr. Fookwire and the squirrels find themselves on the same side. Can those darn, but smart, squirrels find a way to foil Muffins and return the neighborhood to its former harmony? Not for the very young, as there is a lot of text, but a fun book for older youngsters, and some adults. less

I did not want to have to explain to Zachary the meaning of wet willy, noogie, and wedgie.

Not as good as the original. The kids liked when the cat gives squirrel noogies.
