review 1: Raccoon loves pizza, but it seems like every time he gets near it, he gets shooed away by a cranky old human! Secret Pizza Party by Adam Rubin is a great book, and it is also very funny. The book talks about how great pizza is and how much raccoon loves it. Raccoon decides to have his own secret pizza party so that he can finally get a slice of pizza! See if he does in this cute, funny book.An activity that would be great for students would be to bring in a pizza, and slice it. This will help the students who are visual and hands-on learners with fractions. After slicing it, you can take away pieces or add back pieces and do Math problems with the students. For example, we slice the pizza pie into 8 slices. We take away 4 pieces. How much of the pizza is left? Answer: 4 sl... moreices or 1/2 of the pizza. The teacher can make it more complicated for higher grade levels, too! Students will be excited to eat a slice of pizza after the activity, and it will help them with their math skills!Rubin, A., & Salmieri, D. (2013). Secret pizza party. New York: Dial Books for Young Readers.
review 2: "Poor Raccoon. All he wants in life is some pizza."It's a conspiracy between the author and the raccoon as they plan a "secret pizza party" ("When you make something secret, you make it special") so that raccoon can enjoy the meal without being attacked by brooms. They plot and they plan and even elude a suspicious pizza man and raccoon-sniffing broom bots. But then "Sweet Sassy Molasses", someone else is having a not so secret pizza party. Should he crash? Or stay at his own pizza party? The book has the feel of the old pink panther cartoon where the narrator suggests what the character should or should not do. Students will enjoy being in on the conspiracy. The illustrations are a lot of fun, too. less

too long for PSST, but this would be fun for a pizza party program for younger elementary kids.
