review 1: A young boy and his dog want to makes tacos for dragons. They both know that dragons love tacos. When making tacos for dragons they cannot put anything spicy in them because the dragons will get sick and fire will come out from their mouths and ears. The young boy decides to have a taco party because dragons love parties just as much as they love tacos. They make hundreds and thousands of tacos and make sure they only use mild salsa. The party goes really well until he sees that the salsa has little green jalapenos in the salsa. He tries and warns all the dragons not to eat the tacos but it is too late. The dragons start to spit fire and burn his house down. The next day the dragons are nice enough to help the boy rebuild his house. Rubin incorporates beautiful images into... more this fantasy story to make it come to life. The illustrations are all water color and very vivid. The book would be good to show to a primary class because these drawings could stimulate their imagination. A lesson you can teach your students with this book is that you need to read everything carefully before you take action. Young readers will love this book because it mixes simple things such as tacos with fantasy.
review 2: In this book, a narrator tells a little boy who loves dragons how much dragons love tacos. But they also hate spicy salsa. Dragons also love parties. So the boy invites a group of dragons to his house for a taco party. He buries the spicy salsa in the backyard. But he didn't read the mild salsa label closely enough. He discovers it contains jalapenos. This causes the dragons digestive upset. They breathe fire and accidentally burn the boy's house down.I did not love this book for a couple of reasons. One is the writing style. By using a narrator who talks to the boy, the language is stilted and does not flow well. Example:"Either way, if you want to make friends with dragons, tacos are key. Hey, dragon, why do you guys love tacos so much?"The part about dragons loving tacos so much is cute. But then he spends half the book talking about how much dragons HATE spicy salsa. Even to the point that the jalapenos in the mild salsa cause a problem. I can't eat spicy foods, but even I can eat mild salsa with jalapenos. It is not even close to spicy. This drags dragons down into the mamby pamby category where they, as fearsome creatures, do not belong! The illustrations are colorful and of a more cartoonish style. The book is advertised for ages 3-7 years old. I do not see 3-4 year olds listening to this book and enjoying it. The humor is too mature and more appropriate for older children. less

Super cute picture book! Although, I don't quite understand how dragons don't like spicy food. :p
