review 1: Second novel by this author. She is not even trying to be her father's successor, completely different style. But she is a great author to add to your list if you like women detectives. A murder is reported at the beginning and you will assume the anonymous call placed to 911 is from the murderer. The actual tale involves a fabulously wealthy realtor, two subsequent murders of women associated with an escort service, a judge who seems to be protecting the wrong person. Good suspense and complexity.
review 2: I just recently discovered Alafair Burke after years of reading everything written by her father, James Lee Burke. She definitely inherited the writing gene but she has her own style. This lady can weave a story! This is the second book I've read with Detec... moretive Ellie Hatcher. The writer gets how it is to be a woman in law enforcement and understands the demons that can drive each person. I will be looking for more of her books! less
