review 1: I hardly know what to say about this book - the second in the Flavia series. First I still have no idea what the title has to do with the story. I am unsettled by an eleven-year-old heroine with homicidal tendencies and a lack of ability to tell the truth. I am disturbed by two older sisters who are cruel and bullies and a father who is emotionally unconnected with his family. I did like the eccentric aunt, however. The plot was all right but I was once an eleven-year-old girl and could not have removed a window and frame and then handily put in back intact. Nor could I have been as knowledgeable about chemistry that seems Flavia's passion and joy.
