review 1: This is a sweet, compelling story but there were two underlying questions that particularly captured my imagination. The first involved grappling with discontent, and the question of whether our unique natures predispose us to contentment or discontent, or whether we create or even choose our experiences of satisfaction (or lack thereof). The second question asks about the differences between writing and storytelling as art forms, and almost creates a competition between the two. I found this fascinating, and wondered if the title "Lovesong" actually implied, in the end, that neither storytelling nor writing can capture the human soul, but only something that transcends words altogether. Loved this.
review 2: I loved the prose. It was a pleasure listening to it
... more on a long long bus journey while traveling around. The writing is beautiful. There is something so elusive and lyrical about this love story. It sounds so authentic. So common. Two people with such different backgrounds and souls fall in love and marry. They have nothing in common. What is very sad about it is that one watches as years just go by and neither of them pluck the courage to fulfill their dreams or to change the course of their lives to become more happy. Very depressing. In the end she does it. She gets her child but....Lovely to read, a page turner that leaves an after taste of frustration. Depressing. less
