review 1: I found this book ok it didn't reach any great heights nor did it plummet to any depths. In some ways that is exactly the problem, he creates the possibility of great drama and then kills it off with a central character that is too wet for words .a friend of mine once said they and their partner had never argued in the ten years they'd been together my reaction was how sad, to love have to hate it's the Ying and yang. This book lack any Ying or is that the yang.
review 2: What a great book! I love Alex Miller's style of writing and I am glad that I have finally read one of his books. The story was a gentle love story but very engrossing. I enjoyed the characters and the scenery he portrayed. A great tale of different cultures, difficulties in marriage and givin... moreg up everything for the one you love and the consequences that come with that. Also the lesson of you never know what has happened in someone's past.. less
