review 1: I will say that I found the start of the book a bit slow. In fairness to the book and its author, that may have been because I have read so many books in this genre lately. I did stick with it, and found it to be a great read. The story told thru the eyes of a gentile governess to a jewish family. I also found the use of letters from character to character interesting. I did feel by the end of the book, as though I was listening to a survivers story, not reading fiction.
review 2: Really like the way this story is told its a very clever book on a very tough subject. It illustrates how tough times were during the war when the full horrors weren't yet known and small acts could have huge consequence. I appreciate the realistic ending too an overly neat, happy end
... moreing can be nice in some cases but in this one it kept true to the story and characters. I've given this book a 5 star rating as not only are the characters , mood and scene brought vividly to life but it is so well written. Managed to finish this book in a very short space of time too as I found it so absorbing! less
