review 1: I love Amanda Quick. She has a unique writing style and brand of wit that makes her characters come alive and make you want to know them. I also enjoy the original way in which she weaves the paranormal, or 'psychical talent', into her stories. In this particular novel, I loved both Evangeline and Lucas as soon as I met them. And Quick does an amazing job of weaving their stories and personalities together. They seem very different when you first meet them but as they get to know each other and untangle the mysteries surrounding them both, you find they are not so different after all; in fact they are perfect complements to each other. There is more than one mystery to be solved in this novel and Quick manages to keep them both intriguing and separate as the clues uncovere... mored from each help to move the overall story forward. I look forward to getting to know Beatrice and Clarissa in future novels of the Ladies of Lantern Street mysteries. I hope that we'll see appearances by Evie and Lucas again too!
review 2: I love winning books!! When I get it and read it I'll let you all know if it was a good one.Some how I won two copies of this book, dang it. I guess my local library will be getting them soon.I kept waiting for something to happen in this book! After awhile it got really frustrating. It started off really good with the attempted murder, and the main character fleeing to a mysterious garden, but then it just kind of flat lined from there. Every time I thought something exciting might happen, nothing really did.To me this could have had so much more going on. It was a very quick read, and about half way through I realized I was half way and NOThiNG was happening!! I finished it in hopes more action came, but nope! less
