review 1: I liked this book, I really did. Sometimes when two authors team up, the result can be less power packed plot, and more like two styles trying to fight their way out of the literary paper bag. Amber Kell and RJ Scott have put together a story that has a multi-layered plot that both engages and entertains, with characters that I’d love to share a cup of coffee with. As the second book in the End Street Detective Agency series, The Case of the Wicked Wolf could be read as a standalone piece, however, there were things that I think would have had a deeper meaning for me if I’d had the benefit of working through the first book.Sam owns the detective agency featured in the story, and what I love most about the guy is that he’s so far in denial about his paranormal clie... morentele, he’s captaining Cleopatra’s barge. He’s convinced that the majority of the cases he’ll take on will be for “normal” humans, and gets so darn flustered when something not so “normal”happens. He’s also got the most understanding boyfriend ever, Bob, who also happens to be – wait for it – a vampire. So much for normalcy huh? He’s funny, sexy, and perpetually amused by Sam’s insistence that his life won’t revolve around working with the paranormal community.Sam’s hired to help Hartman Hunter find his kidnapped daughter Shelby. Sounds pretty straightforward, except Hartman is the alpha of the local werewolf pack, and they suspect that Shelby’s been kidnapped by other paranormals. When they hit a wall during the investigation, Hartman goes to his ex-lover, the demon he left to sire an heir for the pack, who is none too thrilled that Hart’s blown back into his life. Danjal has every right to be hurt. Hartman not only ditched him for his “duty” to the pack, he made sure to give him a nasty verbal send off, designed to make their break up “easier”. Dan could easily have been a doormat to the more physically imposing Hart, but the demon has some tricks up his sleeve that you hope that you’re never on the receiving end of.It’s apparent that both couples click sexually, but what I found really refreshing is that the chemistry continues on outside of the bedroom. I know they say that a woman’s primary sexual organ is her brain, but I think that these four men show how a good relationship is as much built on the everyday things as it is between the sheets. The authors crafted characters that were not only likeable, but enviable as well. The Case of the Wicked Wolf by Amber Kell and RJ Scott was well worth the time, and I look forward to reading the other installments in the series. Four Twinkling Stars
review 2: 4.5****’ StarsThe great personalities of these two authors made the collaboration of Amber Kell and RJ Scott a ‘no brainer’. You can see for yourself by the last interview we had with them, when we did the Dual review for The Case of Cupid’s Curse, Book one of their End Street Detective Agency series. This series is so off the wall, I cannot recommend it enough.New Private Detective Sam Enderson has been having a bit of luck, and picking up some ‘marks’ one for finding the missing Triad. The Witches Curse from the first book, Cupids Curse, was removed so he was no longer being lusted after by everyone he came into contact with. Bob was certainly happy about that, he only wants Sam to have eyes for him. In losing the spell he gained ‘a familiar’ a cat named Smudge; another entity we will have to learn about. The latest small problem that needs taking care of is a ‘walk in’ client a Troll named Trawl, who needs help getting rid of a squatter under his bridge. This is where we meet a Nyad named Springlilly, and she returns to the Agency to live in the tub, temporarily. The Troll is happy with the outcome and promises Sam he will refer him to everyone and Sam groans because he only still wants Human clients. This book main storyline takes the gang, Teddy the Ghost, the Gargoyle, Sam and Bob to continue searching for the baby wolf Shelby, kidnapped from her home. She is Alpha Hartman Hunter’s daughter. To Hartman’s dismay, he realizes who will be able to help him find his daughter. He is seriously afraid to ask his pack, as he struggles with the thought that some of the members might be involved including Shelby’s mother. The alpha wolf has a more than a past with a demon Danjal Naamah. It is years since they have seen each other, Hartmann having to turn his heart and his back on his soul mate Dan for the sake of the pack and marrying a female wolf and having a young one.The web that is woven with pack politics, a scorned woman makes for a serious conclusion. But along the way these two authors find time for Dan and Bob and Hartmann and Dan to scorch the numbers off the pages. Wonderful steamy scenes for both couples and an intimate reunion for two men who are finding their way back to each other.Yet RJ Scott and Amber Kell find time to entertain us with a water scene involving Sam and the Nyad Springlilly that will make you laugh out loud. What a talented pair and what a fun and intriguing book. We need to know ‘what Sam is” butuntil then Mikhail has his back, an alpha vampire demon….Oh baby what a hottie. We are excited to continue on this road with the gang and look forward to reading the next in the series due out this summer.Review by Gloria LakritzSr Reviewer and Review Chair for the Paranormal Romance Guild less
