review 1: Parry Farms Book Club. I solidly liked this book - would give it 3.5 if I could. It was a clean, quick, entertaining read, with a little taste of a southern small town in the 60's. I liked the cast of "misfit" characters, what they learned about each other and themselves through their book club. The narrator is a character in the book and a great storyteller. It will be a fun book club discussion.
review 2: Dora is the narrator of this wonderful book. She is eighty years old and looking way back to 1962, when a unlikely group of people converge in a small back water town in the south. This is Ms. Hearth's first try at fiction (she wrote "Having Our Say" the Delaney Sisters' First Hundred Years")and she has a great career in front of her. I eagerly anticipate m... moreore from her. Take a sleepy backwater town at the dawn of the civil rights movement and throw in the beginnings of the women's movement and you have the perfect background for mayhem. A family from up north, with a sassy matriarch, turns this Florida town on it's ear. The mix of women (and one man) is the perfect combination of hilarious opposites. It is terrifyingly funny, sobering and sweet. This book has it all. One of my book club choices. less
