review 1: This review is from: Murder & Mayhem in Goose Pimple Junction (Goose Pimple Junction Mysteries Book 1) (Kindle Edition) Murder and Mayhem in Goose Pimple Junction by Amy Metz Few books have everything and Amy Metz managed to do this brilliantly. The humor, the history, the Southern! I simply loved her style, the way she wove the storyline from the 1930s into present-day. Each chapter introduced with American Southern colloquial expressions. On a personal note as someone who has lived in the South and speaks Southern, a history buff and keen on tasteful humor, this book had every ingredient I love. Amy Metz is a fantastic writer and I am sure I will visit Goose Pimple Junction again.
review 2: ********THIS LITTLE CHARMER HAS IT ALL*******So tell me, where can on
... moree find an incredibly well-written, page-turning, romantic, suspense-driven book, oozing with Southern charm and its vernacular? The answer? Simple. Amy Metz’s wonderful, MURDER & MAYHEM IN GOOSE PIMPLE JUNCTION.The basic premise is how an ‘unsolved’ 1930’s murder/suicide case can still ‘haunt’ a small southern town years later, no matter how much everyone there believes it has simply become past history. In comes a beautiful northern woman who, in renting the original target’s old house, not only finds it holds the ‘key’ to the almost forgotten cold case, she discovers that she might very well be the town’s next victim. She quickly gets to know the friendly, colorful ensemble of characters in this little oasis, where the use of southern phrases is not only a treat, the reader feels as if he/she has just had taken Southern Country Graciousness 101. As a matter of fact, an adorable gimmick that Ms. Metz employs before each chapter is the use of southern country phrases, carefully printed phonetically before she uses it. A couple of examples: lilac: verb/lahy-lak/lie like “You lilac a dirty dog!” hireyew: salutation/hahy-uh-yoo/ how are you plural: hirey’all. “Good morning. Hireyew?”Back and forth the book travels from the 1930’s to the modern story as more and more comes out about the crime and its possible killers, along with a romance developing very nicely between the town’s mystery writer and the female house renter. But what also impressed me so much about this book was the ease with which Ms. Metz unfolded everything—from humor to suspense; a well-paced romance back to suspense; the 1930’s crime to romance and always lurking around, ready to pounce at any moment, danger. What kin I say? I sure did ‘preshade’ (pree-sheyt/appreciate) all its twists and turns, innuendos, and seamless story telling; in fact I was happier than a pig in slop! HIGHLY recommended! less
