review 1: This is the ultimate in DIY garden to glass cocktail books. The Drunken Botanist serves as reference guide to plants, herbs and spices with boozy history lessons and trivia weaved into conversational dialog. This book teaches you a handful (51) recipes and then delves deeper and truly teaches you about the roots of the drink. I'm not a gardener, but there is plenty to learn about balancing flavor in recipes, when fruits and veggies are seasonally fresh, and lots of trivia perfect for Happy Hour fun conversation. This is an excellent reference guide. I definitely recommend it.
review 2: I really liked this book as I really like Michael Pollan and the way she started out with various plants, their history, and uses was very Botany-of-Desire-esque. However, I have
... more to say that there was almost too much information in the book and I wished there had been more of the side stories about the interesting history and uses of the plants.I learned a lot from this book, but would definitely have to go back to it to review specifics as my brain couldn't hold all the information. :) less
