review 1: This is a neat little book with lots of great information packed in there on a unique stock of paper containing intricate little drawings to illustrate the various plants and the crimes they were involved in. Although there were lots of great illustrations, there simply weren't enough to get a real handle on what the various plants described in the work actually look like. I loved many of the anectdotes in this book and it was organized quite well. It is a good coffee table or bathroom reader for sure as it covers a lot in a little space, but its information is rather general in nature. If you're looking for more in depth botanical analysis or very detailed explanations of how one plant poisons over another (or recipes, God forbid!) then I recommend looking elsew... morehere.
review 2: Fascinating and amusing. I want to carry this book around to social events where to have to make small talk with near stranger. When those inevitable awkward pauses come up I can whip out a section from this book to stimulate conversation. "Did you know that kudzu vines can grow up to a foot a day and the roots can weigh up to 400 pounds? Would you plant that on the doorstep of your worst enemy? How long would it take to grow into the house and pull down the walls?" Who wouldn't want to read a book that has conversation starters like that in it? less

Not a lot of narrative. It irritated me that I could not understand how the book was organized.

This book comes across more as a listing of plants than the stories tied up to them

Very fun and interesting - and now I don't touch anything when I go outside. Ever.

One extra star just for the illustrations.
