Commissario Montalbano
review 1: I love the TV series but this was the first of Camilleri's novels that I'd read. He's in his late 80s now so can be forgiven for some of the clunkiness of the plot, especially as the writing itself is vibrant and evocative. The only thing that really bugged me was the translation of Catarella's dialogue. It's probably funny in Italian but it's painful in English. Nevertheless I'm looking forward to buying the earlier novels.
review 2: Inspector Montalbano has a man missing and starts searching for him finding a few murders to solve while he does. Montalbano has a problem telling the truth to his supervisors, but no one is more surprised than he when they believe him. Some of his lies are so out there they'll have you laughing out loud. He solves the crimes with
... more good detective skills. A good mystery that'll have you nodding you head saying of course. less
