review 1: Wow, so little happened and he took so long to describe it all. The setting and characters where reasonably interesting and well realised. Reading this on my kindle and upon reaching 90% or so I simply had no compunction to read on; so little had occurred and the escalation of the plot so meager that I could tell that the eventual ending would be a damp squib. I did press on and I was pretty much spot on. I won't be reading the second or any further books.
review 2: Truly fun romp, but nothing too much to write home about, I like that the story begins somewhat in the middle, and the reader learns more about the world of the book as it progresses. However, a common pet peeve of mine is unrealistic and rather superficial female characters written by yet anoth
... moreer male author... And the age old formula of just one meaningful female character surrounded by men, even if she does get to save the day in a manner of speaking. Argh. I haven't decided if the Automaton is worth reading around this issue for me to pick up the next book in this series. less
