First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Hoarding Books. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
One of my very favorite reads of 2017 had me hooked from the very first page. I’m posting a mini-review soon, but here’s a teaser for you!
Wolf by WolfOnce upon a different time, there was a girl who lived in a kingdom of death. Wolves howled up her arm. A whole pack of them–made of tattoo ink and pain, memory and loss. It was the only thing about her that ever stayed the same.
Her story begins on a train.
In the author’s own words, this book is “Inglorious Basterds meets X-Men.” It’s a heart-pounding paranormal alternate history novel with a kickass heroine and fraught, compelling character dynamics. And plenty of snark.
Oh, and did I mention the subtitle?
One girl’s mission to win a race and kill Hitler.
If that’s still not enough to win you over, this book has glowing reviews from authors like Laini Taylor, Victoria Schwab, and Amie Kaufman. Go check it out for yourself on Goodreads!
