review 1: While I wasn't sure where this book would go, it ended just the way I liked it. This was a Christian book, but was not highly centered around Christ. He was mentioned more in a passing way than in a permanent fixture in the characters lives. I'm glad that I had forgot what the back of the book stated about the book, as after I read it after reading the book, I felt it gave too much away. And reading books on an e reader has kept me from cheating, and casually flipping to read the last few pages about half way through the book. This was one I didn't, and while I don't really like surprises,I'm glad I waited this one out and was surprised. This book also brought out a lot of moral and ethical questions for me. How as Christians are we to view IVF, surrogate mothers, foster... more children and adoption. I was surprised that once I learned more about how some of these work, it wasn't like I thought and it did change my perspectives.
review 2: I have never read any books by Angela Hunt before but I found the topic of the Offering to be intriguing. I am a former military wife so I understood the life and all of its components very well. I found myself questioning what would I do in the characters situation and how would I handle it. It posed several ethical questions and stereotypes Honestly I could not say which road I would take if I were confronted with the dilemma that Mandy faced. I did find that some of the descriptions of TriCare were inaccurate. The book also did remind me a little of the show Military Wives and the character Pamela. The question of what family is or isn't is a very difficult question to answer, and I felt the author did a good job of presenting several different angles. I also am not sure that I would have chosen the same couple as Mandy and her usband did. Overall it was a pretty decent book and left the reader questioning what they would do in a similar situation. . less
