My Boyfriend Is a Monster
review 1: When Nora Reily’s family moved into the old 1870s Victorian House, they didn’t expect it to come with occupants of the ghostly variety. Things are moving on their own and then items begin disappearing. While the other tenants are darker and mysterious, Nora finds a connection with Tom, a sweet and handsome young boy who died over a hundred years ago. Nora thinks she has finally found her Mr. Darcy or Heathcliffe, but her friends think Nora should find a boyfriend that’s a little more… solid. Tom may be accepting of the new homeowners but the other ghosts aren’t so friendly and want the Reily’s gone, whatever it takes. I have never been a fan of graphic novels as I often find them difficult to navigate. The same goes for this one, but once I got that hang of ... moreit I really did enjoy the story although it was quite predictable and very short. The storyline was a little rushed and because of that I found it hard to get to know the characters. The illustrations were really well done but they might have packed a little more punch if they were in colour. I do have to mention that being a Jane Austen fan, I respected the fact that Nora felt most comfortable reading a Jane Austen novel and longed for a hero like Mr. Darcy, but then again don’t we all? Overall this was a quick and nice read that is after figuring out how to read the thought bubbles. I would have liked it more if it was longer and perhaps illustrated in colour.
review 2: A graphic novel featuring ghosts! And haunted houses in Minnesota. The Reilly family moved into a writer's home and unfortunately discover several ghosts raking havoc! Ghost boy Tom isn't trying to cause trouble, but the others filled with anger are haunting the family. Daughter Nora is drawn to Tom, but she knows that something needs to be done so the family can return home.Reviewed from a library copy. less
