review 1: I don't have time to write a full review tonight, but a note for the friends I've recommended it to: this novel reminded me of what a great SF novel is. The universe and characters are mind-blowing.The story is intelligent, intricate and perfectly told. The prose stately and musical with nothing extra. I kept thinking of Ursula K. Le Guin or Walter Jon Williams. Just go read it as soon as you can!
review 2: I loved this book - it messed with my head, in a good way. It plays a lot with language, messing with social and gender constructs and even the concept of identity, to the extent that the main character sometimes has to clarify what she means when she said "I".
