review 1: This is the first book I have read by Anna McPartlin and I am now keen to read more by her. This was such a good story. Alexandra is indeed gone, disappeared one afternoon never to be seen again and the story is about the people who come together - accidentally, to try to help find her. Her husband Tom has never stopped looking for her and with the help of her oldest childhood friend and others, a new search unfolds as does the complex story of interwoven lives of real people. Despite the subject matter, this book is not a dark and depressing story, but instead one filled with humour, mad, funny moments, eccentric people and love. The love of family and friends. A great story and one I can highly recommend.
review 2: This book, seemingly about a missing woman,
... moreis so much more than that. It looks at the dynamics between strangers, friends, siblings and parents. Through a common goal of finding Alexandra, a group of people all come together and, in turn, find themselves. The authors portrays life in a realistic, non-idealistic, beautiful and heartbreaking way. The path to discovering one's self and leading a fulfilling life is not easy, and the author manages to portray the complexity in an eloquent manner that has you both laughing a crying, and rooting for the characters. less
