review 1: Amazing story and writing. A great example of historical fiction - the invented supporting cast, the famous leads (huge research there), and the mix of action, period life, and philosophy was done with a light and perfect touch. The kicker - Mrs. Lyon has such a deft touch and confidence that she didn't even need to mention (in the text) that the narrator is Aristotle, nor mention the book's title (but stepped around it nimbly). How you like 'dem apples?
review 2: Ms Lyon writes about Aristotle instructing Alexander in modern narrative and makes the historical tale easier to relate to. At times I thought that the book was unclear in its focus and that perhaps the chapters were scrambled, but I must have gotten confused with the flashbacks. The role of women is
... morenot what it is today, nor what it should or could be and the man talk is often revering the intellect. less

Well written. However, I found the story rather weak. Not much of a plot. But it was OK.

Interesting to be reminded of this history, but nothing really new here. Oddly crass.

A fascinating take on Aristotle's life and Alexander the Great's coming of age.
