review 1: I quite enjoyed this read, though not as much as the first of this series. There was so much that was brushed over that I would have liked to have had explained. Roman is an amazing lead. Just enough mystery to make me want to keep turning the pages and not be completely annoyed with him. Charlotte took a little to like. When you first meet her she comes off as a power hungry bitch. Yes, it's understandable seeing as her father is the way that he is, but still! Her sister, Emily, I liked from the first. She's all the good and bad things of a little sister that I like (and often find in my own). Great read and would highly recommend. Have to pick up the next one.
review 2: This story is the best historical romance I have ever read and, believe me, I have read th... moreousands. How many times I have re-read this amazing and beautiful tale I can no longer say. The way it has been written deceives the reader for a while about who brought what or who planned what. Roman Merrick wasn't born an aristocrat but now speaks as one and has a lot of them in his power. A major member of Londons underworld he can arrange anything even titles and fortunes especislly through csrd games. His secret pursuit and seduction of a beautiful lady is controlled and planned to the last detail but is made to look accidental. He has admired her from afar but always knew she would be difficult to obtain as although hes handsome and rich Roman doesn't circulate in the circles she does. But her father gambles and loses quite a bit. In the end after a few arranged meetings (and some not so much arranged) she works out who has been behind their connection. By then, Roman loves her and knows he cant give her up. A beautiful, truly heart wrenching tale that I never wanted to end. And left me dreaming of them and wishing I had a Roman. less
