review 1: Oh my god!!! No pun intended. Just ventured to read a little Anne Rice. Used to love her early stuff when I was younger. Wow!!! She's lost her storytelling ability with her "return to the fold of The Lord". This is the worst "novel" I've read in probably the last five years. Boring. Plotless. Nonsensical. Constantly trying to hammer home her return to god. Save that for a memoir. Tell an entertaining story.If you're a previous fan of Rice don't bother with this "Songs of the Seraphim" garbage. She's obviously lost her mind and her ability to tell a good story since the Vampire Chronicles.Utter dreck!!! I'd give no stars but I don't think it can be done.
review 2: L'ho comprato sabato a Como a Il libraccio, la più vecchia libreria della città (100 anni). Me lo... more sono trovato davanti ed io che non leggo fantasy da un pezzo ora...con creature fantastiche, non ho resistito alla versione dell'angelo di Anne Rice.Questo libro a quell'odore che hanno i libri nuovi ma sembra contaminato dall'odore della libreria. La trama segue la vita del serial killer soprannominato Lucky the Fox che con travestimenti ed astuzie uccide le sue vittime, ogni volta sotto un altro aspetto. La sua infanzia è stata molto difficile, ha una madre e un padre alcolizzati, una sorella e un fratello minori. Ha un grande talento per suonare il liuto e grazie ad esso suona per strada oppure in locali per guadagnare soldi. Da adulto, si reca in chiesa per trovare pace interiore, prega ed invoca un angelo che come per magia appare davanti ai suoi occhi dopo l'ultimo incarico del suo capo. Ciò sarà l'inizio di una svolta nella sua vita?A mio avviso, gli angeli non sono l'argomento centrale come fa pensare la copertina, sono il mezzo per raggiungere l'espiazione. Accenni a fatti storici mescolati all'immaginario di Anne Rice creano un romanzo dedicato secondo me al tema delle differenti religioni, degli ebrei contro i cristiani, della possibilità di rinnovare la propria vita pentendosi dei propri peccati.Dopo la lettura posso dire che l'essenza del vampiro era precisa, quella dell'angelo è indefinita. Non ritrovo la Anne Rice che ho conosciuto. Sono delusa. less

This book was certainly a departure from classic Anne Rice. The richly-detailed historical aspect of her writing is still fully present, and so is the dark and deeply flawed main character searching for redemption. But Rice has come out of the dark and into the light, so to speak, and it isn't working for me. I really liked the premise of this series, but in the end it wasn't enough. I think my main problem is that Rice didn't sell me on her hero, Toby O'Dare, who is an assassin that has been offered a chance at redemption by an angel. Unlike Rice's most famous character, Lestat, Toby has no charm, and I could just care less about him.I also read the second book in this series but won't be buying another.

I know that most fans of Anne Rice probably think that this series is a little off beat for her, but I love the concept of an assassin turned God's right hand by the visit of an angel. The man travels through time to do God's bidding and deals with the ugly darkness of his past through the missions that the angel sends him on. Rice includes plenty of action and deep introspection and change in the main character.
