review 1: oh wow. this book is a revelation to me. really a lot of the stuff in this book is not something i would be willing to google or anything. but first thing first, i am not a homophobic. its just that the subject of transgender does not take up my interest. however reading this, schrag's witty, sharp and clever rendition i could stomach everything and more importantly i care for all the characters. i understand why, what, how etc. and adam freedman, he could be such an obnoxious, idiotic, unlikeable seventeen year old but i could not help to root for him and smile for him when i reach the ending of the book. and ethan, oh how i have a soft spot for him.
review 2: I really loved this. An unflinching look at sexuality and gender that could allow teen readers who he
... morear about gender issues to really think about what the "rules of attraction" are. Also, Adam is a great straight ally, he takes his sister's sexuality in stride while not really ever losing his own sense. His interactions with his dude friend are hilarious. The big reveal about the roommate is heartbreakingly touching. Food for thought without seeming like a lesson. less

Great intentions, and it brought up some really important themes. But THAT ENDING. Just no.

It was an interesting read but I found the main character almost unbearably unlikable.

Just brilliant. Funny, quirky, poignant and somehow utterly believable.

Deeply offended by this book. Such a disappointment.
