review 1: So fucking adorable.Binky sends in a form to be a space cat. He wants to travel outside the house and go where people have gone before. Also wants to save his humans from aliens (ordinary bugs). He catches the"aliens" and eats them. Totally saves the day. Builds a spaceship and while he does that, he trains to be the greatest space cat. When the space ship is finished, he gets ready for take off and doesn't wanna go without his family. The next exploration will be Binky making a bigger space ship for him and the humans. This was totally cute and I loved it. From the story to the pictures. Great read for anyone who loves cats and their wacky adventures.
review 2: I thought this was a sweet book about a cat who is excited to be a space cat, but is unable to leave w
... moreithout his humans. I have never understood the lure of graphic novels, but this book definitely has me interested in pursing more. The illustrations are creative and funny that truly capture the personality of this imaginative house cat. I didn't think my daughter could follow along with the story, but she knew exactly how to follow the story and could understand the clever humor. Cats do have such strong and quirky personalities. It was fun reading about Binky and his ambitious goals to explore space, but even with confidence and drive, he didn't want to miss his cuddly humans.I would have this book and many books in the graphic novel genre to appease my young readers. Children like graphic novels and graphic novels can be an easy tool to encourage reading for some hesitant readers. This book is a graphic novel because the story is written in a comic strip format. It's easy to follow along as the pictures can tell the story almost as well as the written words associated with each picture. Graphic novels would interest my ELL learners who might be struggling with English. Having pictures match actions can help develop vocabulary and an interest in the English language. I would ask my ELL learners to read graphic novels and assess their understanding through reading conferences. This book would be appropriate for 2nd grade to 5th grade as the reading levels of my ELL students could have a wide range of ability.I could also use graphic novels in art as many of the pictures are fun representations of people and characters that students enjoy mimicking in drawing. less
