review 1: I absolutely loved this book! Although the translation was lacking at times the plot line concealed these flaws! There were jumps in scenes that didn't make sense but if you maintained a thorough track of the separate locations these missing links would fill themselves in. It's great to see a book be written from the rest of the worlds point of view! To see the Turkish input on the war is eye-opening! Great read!
review 2: This is a victorious story of the Jews' escape from being taken by the Gestapo during the Second World War. ... moretrue story! The story is centered on a prominent family in Turkey whose youngest daughter married a Jew. Both families resented the union, and the couple, decided to migrate to France to somehow save their families' reputations. Then the war broke and France was occupied by the Germans. There was quite a sputtering of war talks in this novel, what with a couple of characters holding critical positions in the government. However, it did not dominate the central theme of family and love, and that's what I like about it. I will surely keep this author in mind the next time I shop for a book. less
